Deluge

A couple of days ago, on Thursday, we had a fairly unusual weather event.  High winds throughout the day and then just around dusk there was a torrential downpour of rain.  Huge amounts of water fell in just a few minutes.

I managed to capture some footage of the aftermath which I noticed just as I was shutting up the house for the night at around 5.30pm.

This is mostly a view of the steps leading down from the driveway.  I can't say that I have previously seen such a flow of water coming off the hill and the road that lie above the property.

One good thing that came from this is that my swales, designed to capture and calm water run-off for the garden quickly filled up and there was even some water in the frog pond for the first time in over a year.  Sadly my swales were not sufficient to prevent quite an amount of run-off going down to the creek below but thankfully none of this was from my garden areas.

The reason for the couple of days delay in publishing this is that I have experienced some difficulty in uploading a good enough copy of the footage and what you see here is something less than the original HD quality but slightly better than that which I was able to get on Facebook.
